If the fleet had left then they have decided they cannot rescue their team and Humanity is not ready to interact with them.
If the entire fleet was en route it might indicate a need to show strength and aggression but certainly they'd be revealing themselves to humanity.
A single ship on the way though... Multiple possibilities. Could be the diplomatic mission it is with a degree of measured strength or it could be a covert operation designed to land, retrieve their people and destroy the crashed ship from orbit or such.
Regardless, it's not hard to see Dan is deep in the crazy. Despite being an alien, Gharr was studying humans for some weeks before the incident and has now had a couple of months living with the group and researching more closely so he likely has a good handle on it.
So parking in opposite lanes agains the traffic and Dan´s clutching skills (or lack of same) aside , who here thinks Gharr will manage to calm Dan using his superior [EXPUNGED]-psychologist capabilities or Dan will just have the long awaited full blown Psychotic episode/mental meltdown right here & now and run of into the forest whilst screaming like a madman. Possible after having stripped himself naked.

I think the later , so if I am wrong it can only turn out better.

Also something really weird happened to my upper post and the later posted and minor version further down, the first was gone for a day thus the smaller doublepost. A quite harmless word has been removed in both (its was just from Gharr own bio from cast page), some filter seem to run amok.
Frankly, from the sound FX alone, I would've guessed that a tire had blown ...
(The engine shouldn't stall just from Dan getting off the accelerator, so he used the brakes, and for anyone well-used to a manual transmission, slamming the clutch as well to disengage the engine from the wheels should happen without a second thought.)
A blown tire is certainly a possibility yes. But sometimes even versed drivers in surprise or under hard braking forget to clutch in their panic. Been there , done that and I have been driving stick since about 1991-92
I'd say it's quite "loud" (large-ish uppercase characters) for an idling engine ...
(The wheels being shown as stopped should've hinted me at it not being a car-motion-related sound, though. So, just an incoming Ka-52. Nothing to worry about. )
It's reasonably close, yes, but also reasonably close to the sound of a flat tire. I wasn't sure, but seeing no flat tire in the drawing, and apparently still wheels, I when with idling engine, no flat.
I wonder if Gharr realizes how easily the stunt he just pulled, suddenly jerking on the steering wheel like that, could have flipped the truck.
Also, a better reply to Dan's question than "Yes I want to go to the government" would be "No, don't want to go to your government, but I do want to see my commander.
The guy managed to work on spaceships. I'm sure he'll be able to drive a car.
... we're still talking about the xenobiologist who can't be trusted to keep his implants online even while on that spaceship? Sure good they announce maneuvers via intercom as well ...

Gharr: "Well, Dan, it's not easy to figure out how to drive this thing. I'm sitting on my tail, my head is jammed into the ceiling, my arm is still broken, and I've literally never had a lesson. But you freaked out and jumped out of the driver's seat. What am I supposed to do?"
Dan: "You just press the clutch, put it in first gear, press the accelerator pedal while releasing the clutch, and steer like you've seen me doing. But first you have to release the hand brake here and put your accelerator foot on the brake pedal. Then when you're moving, shift into second gear ... "
Gharr: "Never mind, I'll get out and sit in the grass for a while. What could possibly go wrong?"
And hearing Gharr say that, Dan immediately faints.
Yeah but Dan does not seem quite OK for the time being, as in "worse than usual". His personal safety does not seem high on his list of survival skills at this point.

Ah, I see I've failed to properly portray an idling car engine sound. A shame, it sounded reasonably close in my head...
